Location

Formerly Maricaban Bay Marina-Resort, El Rio Y Mar is in San Jose, Municipality of Coron. A part of the Calamian group of islands, it is situated at the northern tip of Palawan, the Philippines' last frontier.

How to get to El Rio Y Mar
From Manila, you can take the one-hour flight from Manila (MNL) to Busuanga (YKR) via SEAIR or Asian Spirit, or the 12-hour cruise from Manila to Coron pier via WGA Superferry.

From Coron pier: Upon reaching Coron pier, there will be a a one-hour jeepney ride from Coron Pier to YKR Airport (Busuanga).

From Busuanga Airport (YKR): Upon reaching Busuanga Island, there will be a 30-minute jeepney ride, followed by a scenic 30-minute boat ride to El Rio Y Mar.

Rooms

Diving

El Rio Y Mar, a sister company of Club Paradise Resort is centrally-located in a known Scuba Diving area. The reef surrounding the island, known as the Housereef, a favorite site because of easy access and its abundant fish life. Next to this reef is a known feeding ground for green turtles and the dugong (sea cow). A few other reefs can be accessed from the resort within 20 minutes. Another prime dive site, the Japanese freighter Kyokuzan Maru, can be reached within 30minutes from the resort.

Moreover, with "M/V Karen Claire", divers can go to Apo Reef NAtural Park, a world-class diving destination, or to the weternside of Busuanga where there is a good number of wrecks from World War II.

Dive Sites
Dive Site: House reef
Location and Access: Off Dimakya Island, Shore entry
Depth: 3-17 m.
Features: Several species of wrasse, groupers, snappers, parrotfish and butterfly fish are among the inhbitants of this reef. Those that burrow in the sand include sand perches, lizardfish and stingrays. An aggregation of giant clams (Tridacna spp.) is located at 12 meters. During the day, a huge school of jackfish and other mackerels can be found in the inner reef and slope. Fusiliers, Barracudas and tunas roam large areas around the island. Ghost pipefish, pegasus horse, anglerfish, nudibranchs and slugs are abundant in the reef making it a good site for macrophotography.

Next to the reef, the seagrass area serves as a feeding ground for green turtles and the dugong. Occuring in large aggregations, goatfishes scour the bed for food embedded in the sand.

Dugong-watching
The dugong (sea cow) is an endangered marine mammal which can measure up to 3 meters long and weigh 400 kilograms, and feeds on seagrass. Dimakya is one of the few areas in the world where dugongs can be observed in their natural habitat. A professionally-produced ecotourism program, dugong-watching takes the divers and non-divers on a trip along the lengthy coast of Busuanga. To locate the dugongs, go snorkelling or dive with these magnificent mammals.

Dive Site: Kyokuzan Maru (wreck)
Location and Access: Off Dimalanta Island, By boat 45 min.
Depth: average: 25 m.
Features: This Japanese freighter from World War II measures about 152 meters long and lies almost upright. The main structures remain intact. It carries in one of its holds a car and a truck. This wreck provides shelter to batfishes and substrate for the ubiquitous bivalves. Fusiliers, trevallies, barracudas and rays are occasionally sighted during the dives.

Dive Site: Apo Reef Natural Park (more than 20 dive sites)
Location and Access: Mindoro Strait, By boat about 3 hrs.
Depth: 15-40 m.
Features: Very dramatic drop-offs down to about 400 m. The steep walls are well covered with diferent species of hard corals, soft corals, sponges, tunicates, nudibranchs and slugs. The coral formation is magnificent at the plateau. Huge schools of green and hawksbill turtles and multitude of fish including damselfish, butterfly fish, batfish, surgeonfish, snappers, fusiliers and trevallies are usually seen. Strong currents increase the chance of sighting mantas, great barracudas and sharks. The overwhelming abundance and variety of life on this reef makes it a world-class diving destination!
